The Difference Between Different Smile Alignment Methods.

At Trapnell Orthodontics, we make patients’ teeth straighter, whether we use ceramic, Invisalign, or a more traditional metal braces. Each treatment option has their benefits. Let’s look at the different  treatment methods we use at our Provo, Spanish Fork, Springville, and Payson locations.

Traditional Braces

Metal, or traditional braces, are the most commonly used teeth straightening method. Traditional braces can either be silver or gold, making them very durable. At the start, many patients experience at least some irritation to the gums and soreness. This discomfort usually passes after cheeks and gums adapt. Most traditional metal braces use elastic bands to keep the bracket and the arch attached to each other.

Invisalign

Many people, especially adults, prefer Invisalign because they’re virtually invisible. The alignment trays are also removable, making it easier to eat the foods you love and brush and floss. Patients have also reported that Invisalign is more comfortable than other methods. Invisalign takes about one to one and half years.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are transparent, in comparison to metal braces, but they are still more noticeable than Invisalign. Ceramic braces are made of composite materials. They come in varying levels of transparency that naturally match the teeth. Ceramic braces can be a good option if you don’t have the budget for Invisalign, but want something more stylish than metal braces.

Everyone is different so there isn’t a “right” answer as to which braces will work best for you. Make an appointment for a consultation with one of orthodontists today. We have offices in Provo, Payson, Spanish Fork, and Springville.
